Hi! I’m Alyssa, and I’m passionate about helping kids discover the joy of learning—whether that’s outside in nature or inside the pages of a book. I graduated from Edinboro University with a degree in Biology in 2015 and went on to begin my Master’s in Education. I began my career as a full-time snowboard instructor, before moving into Environmental Education at Asbury Woods and Presque Isle State Park. In 2020, I trained in the Barton Reading & Spelling System and began tutoring on the side, helping students build confidence and strong reading skills. After becoming a mom in 2023, I transitioned out of my full-time role in outdoor education to focus fully on my tutoring business, giving me the flexibility to spend more time with my son. To further support my students, I trained in the Foundation in Sounds curriculum in 2025, providing even more tools for diverse learners. I also work part-time seasonally as the educator at Goodell Gardens and Homestead in Edinboro and recently joined the board at LEAF – Lake Erie Arboretum at Frontier.

I bring a unique perspective to teaching because I have several dyslexic family members, including my mom. I myself have ADHD, a common co-morbidity with dyslexia. This experience allows me to deeply understand and empathize with students who learn differently. Even before my formal Barton training, I worked in a variety of tutoring and mentoring roles, serving students from all backgrounds—including inner-city children, refugees, and students with disabilities—and I love seeing each child succeed in their own way.

Outside of teaching, my husband of 11 years and I are proud parents to our 3-year-old adventure buddy, with another little one on the way in Spring 2026. We have a household full of furry friends, fish, and (my husband would say too many) plants. We love hiking, camping, snowboarding, and exploring new places together, from quiet forest trails to vibrant international destinations. When I’m not outside with my family, you can often find me painting, crafting, or hosting local community paint parties—I love bringing creativity and color into people’s lives.

Supporting children on their learning journey, watching them gain confidence, and helping them discover the joy of reading is truly one of my greatest passions. I can’t wait to meet your child and start this learning adventure together!
